Dog-friendly park homes

Every home on this page takes up to two dogs. The fee is charged per stay rather than per night, it is shown in the price breakdown before you reach a payment page, and dogs are welcome in the home itself rather than confined to a utility room or an outbuilding.

"Dog friendly" is doing a great deal of unpaid work on most holiday park websites. It can mean two dogs in the home, or one dog in a crate, or a dog that must not go upstairs in a single-storey building.

Here it means what it sounds like. Two dogs, in the home, on the deck, and out of the gate onto whatever the park has — fifty-two acres at Marwell, the coast path at Mill Park, the Derbyshire dales at Beechwood.

How much does it cost to bring a dog?

A fee per stay, not per night, stated on each listing and added to the breakdown as soon as you tell the search how many dogs are coming. A long weekend and a fortnight cost the same for the dog.

The fee covers the extra work at changeover: the home is cleaned to the same standard for the next guest whether or not a dog has been in it, and that costs something real. Charging it per night would be charging for the same work several times.

How many dogs can we bring?

Two. If you have three, telephone the park rather than guessing — it is sometimes possible in the larger homes and the park manager decides, not the website.

Tell the search how many dogs you are bringing and it will remove homes that cannot take them, including the adults-only and dog-free home, rather than letting you find out at the end.

Where can the dog actually go?

In the home, on the private deck, and anywhere on the park on a lead. Dogs are not allowed in the hot tubs or in the indoor leisure facilities, which is the usual rule everywhere and the only restriction worth planning around.

Each park page lists the walks the park team actually use, with distances. They are the people who walk their own dogs there.

What should we bring?

Bowls, bedding and towels. The homes have hard flooring through the living space and a utility cupboard that takes wet coats and a wet dog, but no dog beds are provided — a dog sleeps better in its own.

There is no hose at every plot. If your dog finds the estuary at Mill Park, and it will, bring something to dry it with.

Questions people ask

Is there a size or breed restriction?

+

No breed restriction and no weight limit. The park rules ask that dogs are kept on a lead on the park, not left alone in the home, and not allowed on the furniture or in the hot tub.

Can we leave the dog in the home while we go out?

+

Not alone. A dog that is anxious in an unfamiliar home barks, and the homes are close enough together that the next guest hears it. For a day out, a kennel or a sitter is the kinder answer, and the park manager keeps local numbers.

Is the dog fee refunded if we do not bring the dog?

+

Yes. Telephone the park before you arrive and the fee comes off. It is charged for work that will not now be done.

Are any homes dog-free?

+

Yes, and deliberately. One home currently taking bookings is adults-only and dog-free for guests who want neither, and the listing says so at the top rather than in the small print.

Are dogs allowed on the beach near Mill Park?

+

Woolacombe and Croyde both have seasonal restrictions on parts of the beach between May and September, with dog-friendly stretches at either end all year. Mill Park keeps the current signage and the rules change, so ask the park rather than trusting a web page — including this one.
