Can you charge an electric car at the park?

A third of the fleet can charge a car on the plot. The honest part of this answer is the two thirds that cannot.

The short answer

Four of the twelve homes we let have a charger at the plot. Three of those are at Marwell Court in Hampshire and one is at Beechwood Park in Derbyshire. The other eight have parking for two cars and no charger, and we would rather tell you that than let you arrive hoping. Filter for a charger on the search page before you book, because it is the one thing you cannot sort out on arrival. If you are bringing a car that needs charging, ring the park and agree how before you set off.

Can you charge an electric car at the park?

Which homes have a charger at the plot?

Four of the twelve. Three are at Marwell Court and one is at Beechwood Park. Mill Park has none at present.

The search page carries a filter for it. Every home page lists what is on that plot, rather than what is somewhere on the park. We would rather the list was longer. It is four.

This is also the reason this page is dated. Charger provision is the fastest-moving thing on these parks. If you are reading this a season later, check the filter rather than this paragraph.

What do you do if your home has no charger?

Ring the park before you book, not after. Every plot has parking for two cars, and the park will tell you what is possible on yours and what is not.

What you should not assume is that a cable run from the home will do. A long lead across a plot other people walk on is a trip hazard. A domestic socket also charges a car too slowly to fill it in a short break. Some plots can take it safely and some cannot, and the park knows which.

For a two or three night stay, arrive with enough range to get home again. Or plan one stop on the way. That is a dull answer, and it is the true one.

Is the electricity charged separately?

Not on anything else. Heating, hot water, lighting and everything else you plug in are in the nightly rate, with nothing metered and no bill at the end.

A car is the one thing worth confirming rather than assuming. A full charge is a different scale of electricity from a week of kettles. What the park does about that is its decision rather than ours to publish. Ask when you book and get the answer before you arrive.

What a week really costs sets out everything else that is in the rate, including the clean, the linen and the parking. There is no changeover fee and no damage deposit on any home we let.

What should you check before you set off?

Four things. That the home you booked is one of the four with a charger, from the home page rather than from the park page. What connector it takes. Whether it is yours alone or shared with the plot next door. And what the park wants you to do if it is already in use.

Then check what is near the park, because that is your fallback. All three parks sit a short drive from a town. A public charger you have already found beats one you are hunting for at nine at night.

Will there be more chargers next season?

The parks are adding them, and we are not going to put a number or a date on this page that we cannot stand behind. Four is what is on the plots now.

If a charger is the thing that decides whether you book, say so when you ring. It is useful for the parks to hear how often it comes up, and it is the only way the number moves.

Questions people ask

Can I use a three-pin socket on the decking to charge?

+

Ask the park first and do not assume it. A domestic socket charges very slowly, and a cable crossing a plot that other guests walk across is a trip hazard. Some plots can take it safely and some cannot.

Is there an extra charge for using the charger?

+

Every other utility is in the nightly rate with nothing metered. A car is a different scale of electricity. Confirm the position with the park when you book, rather than reading it off a web page.

Which park has the most chargers?

+

Marwell Court in Hampshire, with three of the four. Beechwood Park in Derbyshire has one. Mill Park in Devon has none on its plots at the moment.

Can I book a home with both a hot tub and a charger?

+

Yes. Six of the twelve homes have a hot tub and four have a charger, and some homes have both. Use the search filters together rather than booking on one and hoping for the other.

Do you have chargers at reception for visitors?

+

Ask the park directly, because this differs between the three and it changes. The chargers listed on the site are the ones at a plot. That is the only kind we can promise you will reach.
